Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye but rather a typically teen novel with its cute plot. Overall: It’s best not to compare this to J.D. I may dislike summer camp books but I kind of have a thing for brat camp books. The plotline was a bit shaky as I had issue trying to follow along. The characters were floating through the surface of the water. You won’t get much from it and I don’t think it expects you to. It’s a simple read, read, read, don’t think type of book. Never Cry Werewolf is not one that makes the reader think very hard.
But oh course expect the unexpected, Austin’s a werewolf. It’s all static between the two as things sizzle. Rock star’s kid, British (oh la la), and owns a leather jacket. Well the jokes on the stepmom because Houston, we have a problem. Shelby has this evil stepmother demanding that Shelby be sent off to brat camp-hoping to cure her of her boy troubles. But of course a TEEN werewolf is another story, one titled Never Cry Werewolf. Um, ripping your clothes off like the hulk does not make up more attractive. By the end I could better understand her and her decisions, but still she wasn't a great character overall.I was never one to get into the werewolf lusting craze for good reasons. Although, yes, she was annoying at times, she was the type of character that normally may have more of a background role, but rather took center stage with Never Cry Werewolf. The main thing I liked about having Shelby as the main character was that she was different from a lot of characters I've read lately. She said some stupid things and her personality flip-flopped, and she wasn't very developed. From page one, I liked Shelby's sarcastic and witty tone, but at times it got to be a little much. Her mother had died and her father remarried the wicked stepmom.
It may have been that I couldn't really relate to her. The main character Shelby could have been the kick-butt, awesome heroine, but she fell a little flat for me.
The friend, Ariel was great, I would have loved to hear more about her. I really liked most of the secondary characters, but sadly didn't get enough of them.
As I mentioned before, this was a short and sweet book, and that's as far as it went for me.
